Subject: CAD Sever & Interface Upgrades - Next 2 Weeks
Importance: High

Below is a list of dates for upgrading different CAD interfaces. This work must be completed before we can update to CAD version 5.x sometime later this year or next. Although each period shows a 2 hour outage the process in most cases should only be 20-40 minutes.

1. CAD Paging - affects all fire departments utilizing CAD for notification of incident assignment or working fire pages.

2. CAD ANI/ALI - contrary to the above schedule this will now be done with CAD paging on June 17th because they share at least one common component. This impact is to call takers because they will have to manually enter ANI/ALI information from VESTA to CAD. ANI/ALI information will still be available on VESTA assuming the call is a 911 call.

3. CAD Locution - during the upgrade Automatic Dispatch will need to be turned off and all call alerting will be performed through the Motorola radio console.

On Tuesday, June 18th 1000 hours, we will be moving from CAD Production to Training. This is our day for regular Windows updates and maintenance on CAD. In addition, some server and network changes will be made by TriTech; this is the reason for the 10 am start time. This is to resolve a couple of outstanding issue from our server failure a few weeks ago. If this update and maintenance are completed in the time frame expected the following items will be upgraded on the same date. If we run into trouble and the maintenance window is extended into the afternoon we will likely cancel the additional upgrades and reschedule for June 20th. In addition to the following items, Locution, Auto Dispatch, Mobiles, Paging will be affected. RMS records will be delayed until calls can be entered into Production CAD and pushed to RMS expect a 24 to 48 hour delay.

4. Records Check, Proxy - primary impact is to PD and Arson Investigators. Because CAD will be down these services wouldn't be available anyway.

5. CAD Recall, VNM Driving Directions, Browser Rostering, VisiNET Browser - Because CAD will be down these services wouldn't be available anyway. Impact is to CAD, Mobiles (MDC), and VisiNET browser functions.

6. TEST CAD - will be upgraded to 4.5.11.4 if version is released on June 14th. This update will fix the ECT screen not updating as new comments are entered. There are 3 other updates in this version which impact PD more than fire.

On June 24th our last update will be scheduled which will be to upgrade the mobile server for fire. All MDC functions will be off line and all status will be by radio. No other CAD functions or alerting issues are expected.

Due to a problem with the update yesterday, CAD printing which affects the print out that stations receive when a unit is assigned to a call will be rescheduled for June 24th most likely. This has no real impact on any dispatching or response functions.

This is a pretty full schedule the next week or two. We are pushing hard to so that we can be ready for the next major CAD upgrade (no date scheduled yet). We will then repeat this cycle after upgrading CAD so that we can move from a 32 to a 64 bit server platform.
