WHAT'S HAPPENING: Thursday, April 14th, 12:01AM - 06:00AM
* We will be testing GATRRS Zone 1 core systems for Dynamic System Resiliency (DSR).
* Zone 2 core systems will be configured to add 5 Astro Site Repeaters (ASR).
* Converting Iron Mountain T1 to Ethernet
How does this affect users?
Thursday, April 14th, 12:01AM - 06:00AM:
* In Zone 1
* DSR Testing/FATP : DSR tests are not expected to have an impact on voice communications. Data (OTAP & KMF) may be affected for extended periods of time while the data system is being tested.
* Adding Route Reflector: A possible momentary site trunking event may occur on the subscriber display. Users may experience a dropped syllable or two on in-process voice calls.
* Adding AISD (NMD29) to DSR - This site has dual site links, there is no expected impact to voice communications. Core routers 3&4(CTECC) and 11&12 (DSR) will be rebooted.
* Removing ASRs 3-6 (Singleton Bend, Honeycomb, Collier, and Bell Springs) from core routers 1&2 - Core routers 1&2 will be rebooted independently. No noticeable impacts to voice communications.
* Creedmoor users may drop a syllable on in-process calls when the T1 interfaces transfer between the two routers prior to rebooting the active router.
* Converting Iron Mountain from T1 to Ethernet link: This site maybe down for an extended period of time while the site routers are configured and rebooted. Core routers 5&6 will be programmed and rebooted.
* In Zone 2
* Adding ASR sites 53-56 and 58 (TXDOT Hondo, S Bexar, San Antonio District, New Braunfels, and Seguin) to core routers 1&2: The core routers are redundant, there is no expected impact to voice communications.
Why are we doing this?
* This work is being performed to provide the GATRRS core system resiliency.
* Iron Mountain's link is being converted to improve site reliability.
What's required of me?
* As with any/all maintenance occurring on GATRRS, Dispatch Centers should be prepared to use local backup radio resources prior to the start of any maintenance activity.
* In the field, subscribers should be aware of maintenance activity in the case that they encounter difficulty communicating with their Dispatcher and/or other subscribers.
* Subscribers in the field maybe required to power cycle the radio after the 'Site Trunking' event has occurred.
* Prior to this maintenance:
* City of Austin Wireless Communication Services personnel assigned to oversee the work will determine if there is a major reason to postpone or suspend the scheduled maintenance.
* Affected dispatch centers (if available) will be contacted prior to the start of this maintenance to check if there is concern or reason to suspend or postpone the activity.
* EXAMPLES of justification for calling off scheduled maintenance: Major inclement weather moving into the affected area, a multi-alarm fire in progress, or a major law enforcement related event in progress.
* The system and/or site service level as applied to affected coverage areas will be factored into determination for suspending or postponing the maintenance activity.
