Subject: Fire weather Heads up for today through midnight
While we had wetting precipitation last week our grasses (1hr’s) are still ready to burn. With today’s high winds and low RH’s we could get some high rate of spread grass fires. Our RH is forecasted to drop to 26% this afternoon, 1% over a red flag. We will get some winter mix and lighter winds coming in after midnight to bring the danger down again.
I would expect to see some grass fires this afternoon that could be pushed by the high winds even after dark. These may be tough to keep up with.
Initial Attack is key today.
SPC
• Today Partly sunny, with a high near 47. Windy, with a north wind 20 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph.
• Tonight A slight chance of snow and sleet after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. North northeast wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
