Many of you have called asking about dispatching procedures and call triaging. Dispatch is currently using two-pronged approach. First, as we receive information from Public Health, caution notes are being entered in to CAD for locations that require enhanced PPE. These Caution Notes will appear on the MDC and will also alert the dispatchers so that a radio confirmation of the hazard can be made from Dispatch to the responding units. Second, AFD and AEMS Dispatch are attempting to identify patients with flu and/or COVID symptoms during call triage. When symptoms are identified, responding units will see information in the text and will be alerted via radio.

If you come across a pt. with flu/COVID symptoms we ask that you contact Dispatch via phone while you are on scene. The intent is to connect you with the Capital Area Medical Operations group.

This is a dynamic situation and minimizing responder exposure is our primary objective. As changes occur we will attempt to keep you up to date with the latest information on Dispatch operations.

If you have any questions please give me a call.
